چکیده

In the design of reinforced concrete rectangular footings subject to axial load and flexure in two directions, there are different pressures in the four corners, these are exercised by soil. In this paper, a mathematical model is developed to take into account the real pressure of soil acting on the contact surface of the footings, these pressures are presented in terms of the mechanical elements (axial load, around moment the axis “X” and around moment the axis “Y”), when applying the load that must support said structural member. The classical model takes into account only the maximum pressure of the soil for design of footings and it is considered uniform at all points of contact area of footing, i.e., that all the contact surface has the same pressure. Also a comparison is developed between the two models as shown in the results table. The data show that the classical model is larger than the model proposed. Therefore, normal practice to use the classic model will not be a recommended solution. Then the proposed model is the most appropriate, since it is more economic and also is adjusted to real conditions.

Instructions for preparing a paper for the proceedings of the

Shallow foundations in granular soils are designed such that the settlements are within tolerable limits. Schmertmann’s (1970) method is one of the most rational methods for computing settlements of footings in granular soils, and is commonly used world-wide. The method relies on a strain influence factor that varies with depth. Schmertmann et al. (1978) proposed separate strain influence facto...

Probabilistic settlement analysis of rectangular footings L'analyse de règlement de probabilistic de fondations rectangulaires

By modeling soil as a three-dimensional spatially random material, the reliability of shallow rectangular footings against serviceability limit state failure in the form of excessive settlement can be estimated. The methodology to be used is the 3-d random finite element method (RFEM) which combines finite element analysis with random field theory, where the mean, the standard deviation and the...

Seismic Evaluation of Flexible-Base Low-Rise Steel Frames Using Beam-On-Nonlinear-Winkler-Foundation Modeling of Shallow Footings

Recent investigations have shown that the influences of Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) may be detrimental to the seismic response of structure, and hence neglecting this phenomenon in analysis and design may lead to an un-conservative design. The objective of this paper is to quantify the effects of nonlinear soil-structure interaction on the seismic response of a low-rise special moment fram...

Simulation of a New Process Design to Fabricate a Rectangular Twist Waveguide Using Extrusion and a Twist Die

The aim of the present study is to determine the feasibility of making a rectangular twist waveguide used to rotate electromagnetic waves. For this purpose, the process of fabricating an aluminum rectangular twist waveguide was simulated by making use of finite element method and Deform software. The optimum length and angle of the twist die for manufacturing a twist waveguide with inner cross ...

A New Design for Photonic Crystal Ring Resonator Based Add-Drop Filter Using Nested Rectangular Rings

In this paper using nested Rectangular resonator we have designed an add-drop filter based on photonic crystal structures suitable for optical communication applications. The drop efficiency and the quality factor of our proposed filter is 100% and 2508. In this filter the quality factor is significantly improved with respect to other published reports. The simulation results are obtained using...
